The legend goes that when Achilles was a baby, his mother dipped him a vat of yarrow to help protect him against his foes, and only the spot on the his heel where his mother held him was he left vulnerable. The deeply antibacterial and styptic properties of this herb make it a natural choice for wounds and excessive bleeding, having earned names such as "soldier's woundwort" and "staunchweed." Yarrow also aids in regulating menses and releasing physical and emotional heat.*
